Areas of research
The transport of water, solute and energy in surface waters and groundwaters is the central part of applied research at the Chair of Hydrology. Basic research of hydrological processes and systems are pursued with three complementary approaches:
- Experimental hydrology
- Modelling
- Regionalization and GIS
Current areas of research at the chairs are (amongst others):
- Water-scarce regions and arid hydrology
- Environmental pollutants
- Tracer and isotope hydrology
- Sensor networks and innovative measurement systems
- Preferential flow
- Urban hydrology
- Vadose zone hydrology
- Snow and ice
- Ecohydrology (plant physiology)
- Runoff generation processes and catchment hydrology
- Hydrological extremes: floods and flash floods
- Landcover characterization (LiDAR)
- Process interactions and feedbacks of water and solute fluxes
- Forest hydrology
- Surface-groundwater interaction
- Karst hydrology
